“Let’s Put the Tits out there”: from movement to association
Carla Diamanti, president of the ONLUS “Let’s Put the Tits out there”, tells how the movement that led to the establishment of the association, which deals with women affected by breast cancer throughout their path, was born.
The particular name of the association was born from the event organized 10 years ago, when the Waldensian Hospital of Turin was closed. To avoid the loss of patients and experience that the breast center of the Hospital has gained over the years, the participants gave birth to the movement that later became an association.
The fuchsia path is the heir of the movement. To set it up, they used all the medical and care experience of the Waldensian Hospital. The women are welcomed and inserted in a path during which they do not have to worry about anything: Once they receive the diagnosis they must focus only on themselves.
So the women who are diagnosed don’t have to worry about the practical aspects. The association wants to be sure that this treatment is guaranteed to all women, as was guaranteed to them by the Waldensian Hospital.
Depending on the requests, the non-profit organization “Let’s Put the Tits out there” offers several activities. In particular, the association helps women by organizing physical assistance initiatives that include the accompaniment service to therapy sessions, and help in carrying out the tasks of the children of women who have started the course of chemotherapy. Or there is the “wig project” of women who have passed this test, and who pass the wig to other women in the perspective of ecology and savings. Another initiative implemented by the association involves the exchange of books for each course of therapy; because it is important, in a time of physical difficulty, to be linked to the memory of a pleasant reading.
In addition to these projects there is a constant focus on disclosure and prevention. The association organizes many prevention events on the territory and occasionally volunteer doctors carry out free breast examinations. The ONLUS “Let’s Put the Tits out there” also organizes conferences and courses on physical activity and nutrition, and provides counters that deal with the administrative aspects and self-listening groups. Moreover, the association has activated the first desk in Italy on genetic mutation.
In this perspective, the association took part in the “Challenge Paris Coquillade“; an e-bike ride that starts from Paris and arrives at the Coquillade resort in Provence. This event, organized by the resort, plans to raise funds for research. In each stage, at one of the resorts of the Relais Chateaux chain, there will be conferences on prevention, visits made by Doctor Drogo and the distribution of information leaflets.
